Baby Massage UK is a small independent company that has been set up to try to help towards making Baby Massage much more mainstream in the UK.
Many cultures have used massage as part of baby care for hundreds of years, and research shows it can have many benefits. Massage enables you to learn about and respond to your baby's body language. It is also a wonderful way to make your baby feel safe and secure by showing that he or she is loved and cared for. It is very important to remember that massage is something you do with, rather than to, your baby.
The art of baby massage has been practiced throughout the ages in India as a sacred art, handed down from generation to generation, from grandmother to mother to daughter. This form of massage can be traced to its origin in Kerala in the South of India.
Frederick Leboyer believes that the emotional environment of birth has a profound impact and life-long effects on everyone.
“Being touched and caressed, being massaged, is food for the infant. Food as necessary as minerals, vitamins, and proteins. Deprived of this food, the name of which is love, babies would rather die. And they often do.” Dr Frederick Leboyer
